die St�e Ferrara, Modena und Reggio in der heutigen Emilia
Romagna. Genauer gesagt erhielten sie Ferrara vom Papst als Lehen
und verwandelten das 753 urkundlich erw�te St�chen in ein
Vorzeigeprojekt und eine Hochburg der sch� K� Goethe, der
1786 Ferrara besuchte, �erte sich begeistert und nannte die Stadt
bedeutsamer als das europaweit bekannte Florenz.<BR><BR>Mittelpunkt
Ferraras ist das 1385 begonnene Castello Estensi, eine Prachtburg
der Romanik. Gerade taucht die sinkende Sonne das m�tige Gem�r
mit den eckigen T�in rotgoldenes Licht. Fabelhaft!</FONT></P>

Castello Estensi</FONT></P>

size=2>Fast noch fabelhafter sind die feinen Fresken, mit denen die
Herz�im 16. Jahrhundert die Saaldecken schm�lie�n. In
schr�n gro�n Spiegeln erkennen wir die Details und die lebhaften
Farben. Noch mehr staunen wir �ie Sportszenen: nackte M�er
beim Ringen oder beim Ballspiel. Wie in der Antike.<BR><BR>Doch nun
hinauf auf den L�turm! Von dort oben sehen wir nicht nur das
Rathaus und die Kathedrale mit ihrer teils romanischen, teils
gotischen Fassade, sondern auch Ferraras Besonderheit: die
schachbrettartig angelegte Renaissancestadt, konzipiert vom
Architekten Biagio Rossetti. Das Vorbild f� modernen St�ebau.
Unser Blick schweift �ie kompakte Jesuskirche bis zum
ehemaligen Karth�erkloster am Stadtrand.</FONT>

L�turm auf die Renaissancestadt</FONT>

size=2>Begonnen wurde diese Stadterweiterung 1492. Als Kolumbus mit
der Entdeckung Amerikas das Weltbild weitete, setzte Ferrara
unabh�ig davon auf weite Sicht, auf gerade, gr�e Fenster, auf
Loggien und schnurgerade Stra�n, also auf Licht, Luft und
Sonne.<BR><BR>Wieder unten folgen wir dem Corso Ercole I bis zum
Diamantenpalast. Rund 12.000 pyramidenf�g geschliffene
Marmorbl� und die Verzierung der Ecken machen diesen Rossetti-Bau
zum Schmuckst�r Stadt. Jetzt beherbergt er - ebenso wie der
Palazzo Schifanoia - wertvolle Gem�e, viele aus der von den Este
gegr�n Ferrara Malschule. Als die Familie 1598 nach Modena
umzog, nahm sie nicht wenige dieser Bilder mit. Dort sind sie in der
Galleria Estense zu bewundern.</FONT>

Karth�erkloster, gestiftet 1452 auf Veranlassung von Borso d�Este.
Die Anlage mit der Christophorus-Kirche dient nun als Friedhof der
Stadt. Diese endet nach wenigen weiteren Schritten am verwitterten
Engelstor und der inzwischen begr�Stadtmauer. Auf dem 9 km
langen Wall tummeln sich Jogger und Radler. Da machen wir gleich
mit.<BR><BR>Doch geradelt wird hier �l und nicht nur von den
Studenten der 1391 gegr�n Universit� Selbst der B�eister
ist mit dem Radl unterwegs. So verbinden sich f� Besucher
Historie mit Fitnesstraining.</FONT></P></TD></TR>

Sportbegeisterung ist ein Vorteil, gibt es doch in Ferrara auch
Spezielles f� Gaumen, ebenfalls ein Erbe der Este-Familie.
Ferrara ist traditionsbewusst, daher wird hier oft noch gekocht wie
einst am Hofe, daheim und in einigen Gastst�en. So in der "Enoteca
al Brindisi" von 1435 oder im "Ristorantino di
Colomba".<BR><BR>Typisch sind die Cappelletti, die mit einer
speziellen Fleischmischung gef� Tortellini. Im Herbst haben
Capellacci die zucca, Teigwaren mit K�� ebenso Konjunktur
wie eine stark gew�Salami. Und st�ig stehen vierarmige
Br�en, die Coppie, auf dem Tisch.</FONT></P>

B�ermeister der Paneficio Moro an der Piazzetta Castello nach wie
vor mit der Hand. Verf�sch ist auch der Pampepato, ein
Gew�hen mit Schokoladen�g. Den gibt�s nur in Ferrara. Der
muss unbedingt noch im Koffer Platz finden und daran erinnern,
dieses sch�und angenehme St�chen bald wieder zu
